First PLIX Tech Talks meeting turns out a success // 11.06.2010
The first PLIX Tech Talks meeting took place on the 9th of June. Almost 40 participants listened to the presentations and discussed BGP configuration best practices and network monitoring issues. There was also a presentation on Extreme Network's switches programming capabilities. The next PLIX Tech Talks meeting is planned to take place in September.

A new PLIX in Katowice // 17.03.2010
On 4th of March we have launched a new, independent PLIX node in the city of Katowice. It is located in PSE building at Jordana 25. Members exchange traffic locally in the node. Additional services available at PLIX Katowice include i.a.: access to CDN networks, e-dns.pl, F-root server, newsfeed, and whois server. During first six months a 1GE port is priced at only 100 PLN and during second half of the year 500 PLN. We invite you to join a growing number of PLIX Katowice members.
F-root in PLIX // 12.03.2010
On 4th of March an F-root server, one of 13 global DNS root zone servers, has become operational at PLIX. It is managed by Internet Software Consortium (ISC). This local instance of F-root provides faster and more secure DNS services for PLIX members. F-root is available for IPv4 and IPv6 traffic.

On 10-11 September the PLNOG3 conference has taken place. PLIX Outage - 11.12.2008 // 12.12.2008
According to yesterday's issue in PLIX internet exchange point, which caused issues in almost all ISPs connected to our exchange, I would like to clear cause of that issue and efforts which we have made to eliminate it in future. Without going deeply into technical details, yesterday at 13:04 a packet storm on one of PLIX members has occured. It grew up to 800Mbps and 650kpps in a while. 1GE members' ports have been staturated, and routers on 10GE ports were totally blocked and stopped working. After a while we saw traffic from another IXP in public PLIX VLAN, which of course meant a loop of Unicast and Multicast packets. Protection measures configured on our ports were supposed not to allow propagation of such traffic with such huge load, however it was not enough for that storm. PLIX devices were running all the time, but quantity of packets was so enormous that it blocked most of routers connected to PLIX public VLAN (1.2Mpps). Amount of traffic has completely prevented us from catching the source of that attack, as each machine trying to mirror traffic was blocked in few seconds just after we started it. Source of that issue was finally found and since 14:08 situation is clear and stable. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused by that issue. We also inform that during next week we will prepare technical document covering security mechanisms which can be applied to PLIX to prevent such attacks/issues in the future. This document will be submitted to PLIX Experts Board to prepare one coherent solution for future needs.
40Gbps // 02.11.2008
PLIX has reached 40Gbps of aggregated traffic on 2nd of November 2008. That means we have 10 times more traffic than second IXP in Poland - WIX. Port upgrades (1GE->Nx1GE or 10GE) were significant last month. We also see growing number of members and prospective members who will be connected in the nearest future. Thank you all for your support and continuous commitment in PLIX development.

We have launched test Newsfeed server available for all PLIX members. After performance & speed tests we have found PLIX Newsfeed server as the fastest and most efficient Newsfeed server in Poland. We strongly encourage all members to contact with our NOC to configure proper credentials to access this service.
